Summary
Petable lets users capture and share real animal sightings. The service handles account data, animal photos, approximate public map locations, and private exact capture locations used for safety and matching. Exact capture location is not shown publicly.
Data we collect
- Account information, such as email address, username, display name, avatar, and authentication data.
- User content, such as sighting photos, comments, profile content, reports, reactions, and metadata attached to a sighting.
- Location data when you create a sighting. We collect precise location at capture time, then create a fuzzed public location for map display.
- Device and app information, such as app version, platform, diagnostics, security logs, and push notification tokens if you opt in.
- Enrichment data, such as weather or broad place labels, when used to power badges and context.
Location
Petable is designed so public map data does not reveal exact capture coordinates. Exact location is used server-side for duplicate checks, same-animal matching, fraud prevention, and safety. Public views use fuzzed coordinates and broad labels.
Public content and private spaces
Animal photos, captions, comments, public profile fields, broad place labels, and map pins can reveal information about people or places when combined. Do not upload faces, license plates, home interiors, windows, exact addresses, school identifiers, workplace identifiers, or other details that could identify a person or private location.
We may remove, restrict, anonymize, or review content that exposes private spaces, vulnerable animals, children, unsafe behavior, or other sensitive context. If your personal data, home, workplace, vehicle, child, or animal appears in Petable content, contact privacy@petable.app or use the in-app report tools.
How we use data
- To create and display animal sightings, feeds, maps, profiles, badges, and social features.
- To verify that a submitted image contains a real animal and to reduce duplicate or abusive submissions.
- To provide moderation, reporting, blocking, account security, and customer support.
- To comply with app store, legal, privacy, safety, and security obligations.
- To improve reliability, performance, abuse detection, and product quality.
Processors and sharing
We do not sell personal data. We use service providers only to operate Petable, including Supabase for auth, database, storage, and realtime features; Google Cloud for backend infrastructure and model inference; Expo for app services and push delivery; Cloudflare for domain, DNS, security, and email routing; Vercel for this website; and weather/geocoding providers where needed for app features.
These providers may store or process data in countries other than yours, including the United States and the European Union. Where required, transfers rely on the providers’ standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards. We retain personal data only as long as needed for the purposes above; content you delete is removed from public view immediately and from backups on their rotation schedule.
Your rights and deletion
Depending on where you live, you may have legal rights to access, correct, export, restrict, object to the processing of, or delete your personal data (for example under the GDPR in the EU/UK, or state privacy laws in the US), and the right to complain to your local data-protection authority. We honor these requests for all users regardless of region, subject to identity verification and legal limits.
You can request access, correction, export, or deletion of your account data by emailing privacy@petable.app. For account deletion, use Settings in the Petable app. If you cannot access the app, use the public deletion page or email delete@petable.app.
In-app account deletion removes the authentication account, profile, sightings, comments, reactions, notifications, device tokens, and stored user photos where technically possible. We may retain limited records when required for security, fraud prevention, legal obligations, dispute handling, or abuse investigations.
Children
Petable v1 is intended for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly allow children to create accounts. If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact privacy@petable.app.
